A stretch of the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway has reopened at King Street in Rye Brook after a box truck slammed into the overpass sending debris flying.

Original report

A stretch of the Hutchinson River Parkway is closed northbound at King Street in Rye Brook after a box truck slammed into the overpass sending debris flying.

The incident took place around 12:52 p.m. Monday at King Street sending the debris onto the roadway at the border between Rye Brook and Greenwich, injuring at least one person, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.

Both northbound lanes are closed on the parkway with traffic being diverted at King Street, O'Leary said.

"The struck is wedged under the bridge so it may take a while for traffic to resume on the parkway," he said.

Most of the debris is from the truck, which was transporting blankets, not from the King Street Bridge, he added.

Structural engineers will be checking the bridge for safety once the truck is removed.

Northbound traffic is currently backed up past Exit 28.
